Loic Claveau (Community Team Lead Aion)
What is your name and what is your field of activity at NCsoft?
My name is Loic Claveau and I’m working in the Community Department as a Community Team Lead for Aion: The Tower of Eternity. My field of activity is to make the interface between the Korean developers and our European players as well as being the interface between the Korean Devs and the rest of the company and my Community Team.
How did you come to NCsoft?
Being a big fan of LII, I really wanted to work for NCsoft for a long time. I was working in the Community field when I heard NCE was settling down in Brighton. That’s when I decided to apply and I got hired!
What are you working on presently?
The project I’m currently working on is Aion: The Tower of Eternity. I’m managing the Community Team as well managing the French community. Since our game is not released yet, we are preparing for Beta and we are brainstorming a lot to figure out what kind of stuff we want to do once the game is realised. And since we’ll get a European version of Aion, we should get access to a lot of cool tools to entertain the players with.
What do you like most at your job?
Several aspects appeals to me. Firstly, this is a “social” activity. You get to meet a lot of people, either fans or devs. Secondly, it’s a creative job as in we need to come up with ideas to try and entertain the players. Of course right now, my team doesn’t have a game yet, but the planning stage is also very fun.
What is your favourite NCsoft title and why?
I would have to go with LII. Mostly because I’m an “Open World” PvP player and I like the Korean PvP vision. They are very competitive and I like competition.
What other game genres (except MMOs) are you interested in and what are your favourites?
I like almost everything, even management games. But I’m definitely a FPS and RTS lover. I don’t mention any MMO game because they are my passion, so it’s a granted even though I have to admit that I’m not playing one seriously at the moment. As for my favourite’s games of the moment, I’d definitely go for Project Reality, a very realistic mod for BF2 then Sins of a Solar Empire (I just had time to try it and it’s great). In term of MMO, I’m looking forward playing Aion but you knew that already, and I’m waiting to see whether Darkfall Online will be released or not.
What is your favourite TV show or series? What are your favourite films?
Dexter is one my favourite TV show. I liked Jericho as well and Battlestar Galactica. But I’m a nostalgic also and at lunch, I’m watching one Magnum P.I episode ?. As for my favourite films…my top 2 would be Dune from David Lynch and Blade Runner from Ridley Scott. My top 5 would include Sergio Leone’s movies probably. Yeah…old school, I know.
Do you like reading? If yes, what kind of books do you have in your bookcase?
Yes, I love reading. I just wish I had more time to do it. As for what I like, it’s really eclectic. From Sci-fi (Philip K. Dick is my favourite writer, Asimov) through Horror (Lovecraft) and Fantasy (David Gemmel (R.I.P – and thanks to “Les Editions Bragelonne” and their awesome book cover for making me discover this writer) to Epic Tales (Iliad and Odysseus by Homer is one my favourite book) and History Mythology (greek and roman mostly). And plenty others.
What are you doing in your spare time?
Watching series, reading, playing video games and going out to see movies. My agenda is full!
McDonald’s or Burger King?
Burger King of course, there are none in France since years, hence why I left! More seriously, I don’t eat junk food anymore.
Coca Cola or Pepsi?
I liked both, without distinction. But it’s bad for the health so I stopped as well.
If you would have one year free time and enough money: Where would you spend your time and what would you do?
I think I would travel. Pyramids definitely, and white sand beaches and blue lagoon sea (as long as they have an internet connexion, that is).
